Based on her observations of shadows upon the ground and shadows on the ground, the artist spent months experimenting with a method to convey objects in two dimensions on canvas. When the objects are alive or perishable like humans and fruits that they transform into a picture of themselves. Alexa's painting style has an ephemeral quality, the only thing that remains of Alexa Meade is her photograph. Since the painting and photographic techniques are synchronized so tightly it creates an illusion of trompe l'oeil, in which it appears as if three dimensions can only be seen at specific places, for example the area around the eyes or hair. Sometimes, Meade integrates her painted models into the 3D space around them, allowing them to engage with the self-created universe. This is a way of breaking down the barriers between painting, photography, performance and installation.
